Border Patrol agent beats undocumented immigrant in custody, Eduardo Moreno guilty of civil rights violation

U.S. Border Patrol Agent Eduardo Moreno is in hot water.  He will likely get a date with “bend-em-over-bill” when he is sentenced to prison for beating a defenseless undocumented worker who was in custody.

According to court records and admissions during a plea agreement, on May 10th, 2006, Moreno was escorting the undocumented person at the Border Patrol Processing Center in Nogales, Arizona.  For reasons not disclosed, Moreno attacked the victim.  He punched the man in the stomach with a baton, then threw him to the floor.  To finish the assault, Moreno kicked the defenseless man.  Needless to say, the undocumented immigrant “suffered bodily injury”.

To cover up his tracks, Moreno falsified his report or made a false statement to investigators.  That has earned him an additional charge of making a false statements.

Eduardo Moreno pled guilty today to a federal civil rights charge.  The guilty plea carries a sentence of up to 10 years in bend-em-over-Bill’s cross bar motel.  The sentencing will occur on August 12th, 2010.

“We place a great deal of trust in federal law enforcement officers, and the Civil Rights Division will aggressively prosecute any officer who violates the rights of others and abuses the power they are given to perform their critical duties,” said Thomas E. Perez, Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division.

Most of our law enforcement agents break their necks to get it right in a dangerous environment.  Once in awhile a bad apple pokes through.  Eduardo Moreno has left a black eye on the Border Patrol because he beat the hell out of a defenseless Mexican National.

According to the World Socialist Web Site, the un-named victim got off easy.  Anastasio Hernández Rojas died in a San Diego hospital Monday, June 1st, 2010.  He was in the custody of Border Patrol Agents at the San Ysidro border crossing when an incident broke out.  The agents reportedly tazered Hernández Rojas and beat him.  He was declared brain dead as the result of a homicide.

On May 28th, John McCain failed to show at a community meeting.  Immigration rights activist protested at his office.  The conservative right refuses to entertain discussion about comprehensive immigration reform.  ( cir ).  With Cir, we can avoid ugly confrontations like that of anastasio Hernandez Rojas, and frustrated brutes like border patrol agent Eduardo Moreno.  Let’s pass comprehensive immigration reform now!

Full retraction regarding civil disobedience and Alto Arizona and Puente Arizona, national day of action!

Earlier, I reported that many acts of civil disobedience were likely at the Alto Arizona immigration protest against SB 1070.

I was wrong.

It is my understanding Alto Arizona and Puente Arizona support lawful protests of SB 1070.  It was my mis-understanding they were planning on using civil disobedience at the event to make their point.  As I later found out, they specifically elected NOT to use civil disobedience.  Rather, they decided to us “an action”, a protest, to make their point.

Please forgive my error in this matter.  I got my information from sources out-side of Colorado that are not as reliable as I thought.

I do not speak for Alto Arizona or Puente Arizona.  All reports are from my own personal point of view and sometimes I am wrong.  I will do better next time!

Sincerely,

Tim Paynter

Angelica Salas of CHIRLA asks John McCain to meet, Alto Arizona, national day of action

May 28th, 2010, John McCain does not show up for a community meeting.

Immigration reform proponents cannot discuss immigration reform if people don’t come to the table.  John McCain has not been willing to come to the table in good faith.

When McCain did not show up, there was a protest of McCain’s Phoenix office.  If he won’t meet with the community, how else are we to communicate with him?

Angelica Salas of CHIRLA tells us what happened.

Call your senator and ask him to support comprehensive immigration reform in 2010!  Every phone call helps!

Help register people to vote.  We need to throw those who oppose rational solutions to immigration reform out of office.  Get involved in a community organization.

If you are in Colorado, we have the Colorado Immigrants Rights Coalition as a place to start.  They can send you to one of the participating organizations that need your support!

If you like what you read and hear on this web page please pass it on!  Face book, twitter, follow us or subscribe to our feed!
